Beta testing

Init is in public beta. If something goes wrong, a report takes a minute - and it already has everything needed to find the cause.

Getting started

Testing needs Init Desktop; apps are installed from the catalog.

  1. Download Init DesktopFor macOS or Windows - on the Download page.
  2. Create an organizationA local one right on your computer, or connect to an organization server.
  3. Install appsFrom the Desktop Marketplace or from a downloaded .initapp package.

Activity log

On first launch the beta build asks how detailed the log should be. Change it in Settings → About → Beta testing.

Full
Everything below plus request and response bodies and typed text. The default.
Standard
Screen addresses, button labels, error texts.
Minimal
Facts only: which actions and requests happened, codes and durations.
Off
Nothing is recorded.

Passwords, keys, tokens and email addresses are hidden at every level. The log stays on your computer only - up to 7 days and no more than 256 MB.

If something goes wrong

  1. Take a snapshot⌘⇧B on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+B on Windows - on any Init screen.
  2. Open Beta reportDescribe what you did, what you expected and what happened. The text saves itself.
  3. Collect the logsPick a time window; before the archive is created you see what goes in and can untick anything.
  4. Send the archiveThe init-beta-….initbeta file appears in Downloads - send it to the developer any way you like.

The archive is encrypted: only the developer can open it.
